The road to release
- January 28, 2026: announced with a reveal trailer; 50,000 wishlists inside a week.
- February 16 to March 1: first public playtest (intro location, online co-op only); over 105,000 players joined.
- May 6: first public demo with the Kitchen and the Garage, local split-screen and nine languages.
- June 6: Future Games Show trailer; release date set for September 7 with Friend's Pass confirmed.
- June 15: Steam Next Fest demo update: Journal, camera and handling settings, Steam Deck support.
- June 26 to 28: closed playtest of the Backyard.
- August 3: demo closed.
- August 12: release moved forward to September 1; gameplay overview trailer.
- September 1: launch on Steam with Friend's Pass and the Supporter Pack; login hotfix the same day.
Launch details
- Launch discount: 10% off until September 15, 2026 ($17.99 in the US).
- Regional base prices: $19.99 / £15.99 / €19.99 / ¥77 / 849 RUB / 59.99 PLN / R$ 59.99 (Firevolt's own examples). Details on the price and editions page.
- Languages: 14 interface languages (English with full audio; French, German, Spanish for Spain and Latin America, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Portuguese for Brazil and Portugal, Russian, Italian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Belarusian). Korean is not supported, which a Steam thread has already asked about.
- Steam Deck: developer-confirmed support, Valve rating still Unknown. See system requirements.
- Second player: free with Friend's Pass; split-screen needs no second copy at all.
What comes next
Firevolt has not published a dated roadmap. The update tracker lists what is shipped, confirmed and planned. Current headline items:
- Confirmed, no date: A fix for the Garage cog softlock after unlocking the Magnetic Grabber (Firevolt: 'already working on a fix', Sept 2); DLC: 'We have plans for DLC and there are some exciting ideas we're working on' (Launch FAQ thread, Sept 1); More customization content beyond the Supporter Pack
- Planned for the first half of 2027: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions; Friend's Pass on consoles; Crossplay between console and Steam players ('we'll do our best', Launch FAQ thread)
- Requested by players, not planned: Single-player mode (Firevolt: no plans for solo or 3+ player co-op); Steam Remote Play Together ('not in our plans at the moment'); Native macOS build ('can't make any promises')
Release FAQ
Is WheelMates out?
Yes. It released on Steam on September 1, 2026, moved forward from the September 7 date announced at the Future Games Show. A login hotfix shipped the same day.
Is WheelMates on PS5?
Not yet. Firevolt said in the Aug 21 Q&A that PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch versions are planned for the first half of 2027. No pre-orders or store pages exist for consoles as of Sept 2, 2026.
Is WheelMates on Xbox or Game Pass?
Xbox Series X|S is planned for H1 2027 alongside PS5 and Switch. Nothing has been announced about Game Pass. The Xbox Achievements site listed the game in January 2026 based on the announcement, which is why it shows up in searches.
Is WheelMates on Switch or Switch 2?
Firevolt named "Nintendo Switch" for H1 2027 without specifying the model. We will update this when a store page appears.
Is there a demo?
Not any more. The public demo (Kitchen and Garage) ran May 6 to August 3, 2026 and drew a Steam Next Fest update in June. The free app that remains is the Friend's Pass, which only joins an owner's game, and demo progress does not carry into the full game.
Is there a Mac or mobile version?
No. Windows only. Firevolt would like a Mac build but has not promised one, and there is no Android, iOS or APK version at all.
